We know that many people have different size and shape feet, and not all boots and shoes will fit everyone equally! All our boots are made on a standard last, but the Regina, Amira, Burnham, Rockingham and Belgravia will all stretch (and our other shoes/ loafers too!)
Sometimes the Ankle can feel a little tight, or people can't initially get their feet into new boots as the Ankle feels too tight or narrow. But Fear Not! Sometimes the Ankle just needs a little convincing (stretch).
Leather and suede (being natural products) have an inherent stretch within them that will become apparent with wear and use. For the Amira, Rockingham and other boots with a side zip, please ensure this is fully undone to the sole of the boot.
This is where we like to recommend something called “the freezer bag trick”. Put your foot inside a freezer bag or plastic bag and try entering the boot again.
Put your weight through the heel, and firmly support the rear of the boot to avoid bunching under the foot. The bag will remove the friction in slipping around the ankle or bend of the boot, making it easier to slip in and out.
Don’t worry! This isn’t required every time! Using the freezer bag several times initially when new or when you receive them will help to stretch where your foot goes in, ensuring you won’t need to use the bag for successive wears! You'll slide in quite easily after a little bit of give!
Here's Stag to show you how:
A little extra explanation
Leather and Suede (being natural products) have an inherent stretch within them that will become apparent with wear. By wearing the boots around the house or whilst doing basic activities, the suede and leather will begin to soften and stretch (thanks to body heat and pressure). Prolonged use and wear will make this much easier over time - Persevere!
Don't worry - the boots will only stretch as much as required (where pressure is being applied). Leather will eventually stretch to the same degree as suede, but will take a little longer, and feel firmer/ tighter to start.
